Forgot my dad's method for fixing a squeaky floor until I heard it again at his house last weekend

I was at my parents' place in Portland helping them move furniture, and my dad pulled out this little jar of baby powder he keeps under the sink. He sprinkled some on the floorboards and told me to walk over them, and the squeak was gone just like that. It made me realize I'd forgotten about that trick for years, even though I've been dealing with a squeaky hallway in my own place since spring. Anyone else have a random fix like that you saw your parents do but totally spaced on until you saw it again?

I read baby powder works on old car door seals too.
