I finally compared handwritten lists to my phone notes after 6 months

I kept losing phone notes when my screen cracked last Tuesday in the warehouse. Switched back to a pocket notebook I got for $3 at the grocery store. Turns out writing things down by hand makes me actually remember them, not just type them and forget. Anyone else find paper works better for stuff you need to stick in your head?

My cracked screen story is almost identical to yours. Broke my phone two months ago dropping it while chasing my toddler. The pocket notebook from the drugstore cost me four bucks and I've filled half of it already. Did you notice that writing it down makes you plan your day differently too, like you think about what actually matters before you scribble it down?

Hang on, @wilson.joseph, did you just say you filled HALF a notebook in two months?! I've had mine for almost three months and I'm maybe a quarter through. You must be writing down EVERYTHING. But yes, totally agree about planning differently. When I write, I skip the little stuff like "buy milk" and focus more on the big things for the day, like calling that client back or finally organizing the garage. It's like my brain knows there's only so much room on the page, so it picks what actually matters.

Actually ask yourself this: when you write down a "big thing" like calling a client, do you actually end up doing it more than when you just kept it in your head? I mean, I've noticed with my own notebook that putting something on paper almost feels like I'm tricking my brain into thinking it's already done, you know? Like the act of writing it down gives me this false sense of accomplishment. But then the end of the day rolls around and I realize I never actually made the call. Idk, maybe it's just me, but does writing it down sometimes make you less likely to do it because your brain thinks you already checked it off?
