I spent 6 years writing down the wrong stuff in my journal and a $2 notebook fixed it
I used to write down every single thing that happened each day in my journal, like what I ate and what errands I ran, and after 6 years I had 11 notebooks full of stuff nobody would ever care about. Last March my aunt passed and I went looking for anything she had written about our family trips to Gulf Shores, and all I found was a list of groceries from 2014. That was the moment it hit me that I was writing a log, not a memory. Now I only write down one story a day, just one, but I include who said what and how it felt, and 40 pages so far are worth more than all 11 notebooks. If you keep a journal, what do you actually put in it?
