My face still gets hot thinking about that family reunion joke

Back in high school, I tried to be cool at a family reunion by telling a joke I heard from a friend. It was about how adults always talk about the weather, but I messed up the punchline. Everyone just stared at me in complete silence for what felt like forever. At the time, I wanted the ground to swallow me whole, it was SO awkward. Now, I realize we were all just kids trying to figure out social rules, and it wasn't that big a deal. Things have changed since then, with how we connect online, but I still cringe a little. It's funny how these moments stick with you and show how much you've grown.

Notice these cringe stories, like bethbailey mentioned, form a common thread in how we learn social cues.

Ugh, I feel this! I once tried to tell a knock-knock joke at a holiday dinner and completely blanked on who was there. So I just whispered "never mind" and stared at my plate. Why do our brains do that to us? Now it's just a funny story about how awkward I used to be.

Man, it's wild how we all collect these cringe stories... @willowb75's plate-staring moment totally fits that.
