My grandma's kitchen timer stopped everything in its tracks
She passed in 2019, but her old wind-up timer still sits on my counter. One Sunday I used it to time my bread dough, and the whole kitchen went quiet while it ticked. Why do we speed through things now when that simple click-click-click made me slow down and just wait?

Sixty seconds of bread dough feels like an eternity when you're watching a clock do its job. Guess that's why we invented phones that beep and buzz, so we never have to wait for anything again.
