My old Honda Civic died mid-merge on I-95 last Tuesday
The timing belt snapped at 112,000 miles (I know, I know I should've replaced it at 90k). Engine is toast and the repair quote was $2,400 which is more than the car is worth. Has anyone here successfully rebuilt a motor themselves in a weekend or am I looking at a junkyard special?

Rebuilding a motor in a weekend is a bad idea unless your daily driver is already a backup car.

Bad idea unless your daily driver is already a backup car" - Nailed it. A weekend rush always means renting something later.

Learned that one the hard way myself.

When you say "junkyard special" are you hunting for a direct swap or thinking about building something from a blown core?
