My writing teacher in college said my stories were too neat and tidy, which honestly stung at the time.
She told me, 'Real memories are messy, so stop cleaning yours up for the reader,' and now I force myself to write down the awkward, unresolved bits, like how my dad's joke fell flat at my graduation party or the weird smell of rain on the driveway that day.

But sometimes a story needs that clean shape to really land, you know? Your teacher had a point about messiness, but neatness has its own power.

My tenth grade teacher said neatness kills a story, @violaramirez, so this is wild to hear.
