PSA: I found out the original name for the Golden Gate Bridge was almost something else
I was reading a history book about San Francisco and it said the bridge was almost called the 'Golden Gate Bridge and Ferry Terminal Project' in early plans. That was in 1930. The shorter name won out. I always just assumed it was always the Golden Gate Bridge. Anyone else find a fact like that about a famous place?

It's wild how many official names for things are way too long. The Hoover Dam's full name is the "Boulder Canyon Project" on some old government docs.

My full legal name is probably a paragraph on my birth certificate.

That is a crazy long name for the bridge. I saw something like that at the airport last year. The official sign for the Los Angeles International Airport still says "Los Angeles International Airport, originally known as Mines Field" on a plaque. It makes you realize how many names get shortened. Good point from @davis.noah about the Hoover Dam too. Those old project names were just not catchy at all. They really needed someone in marketing back then.
