Showerthought: I used to think my grandpa's old stories were just boring history

I was helping him clean out his garage in St. Louis last fall and he pointed to a dented toolbox, saying, 'Your mom made that dent trying to fix her bike when she was ten.' That one detail made all his other stories feel real, not just dates and places. Do you have a small object that suddenly made a family story click for you?

Did I ever tell you about my dad's old baseball glove?

Reminds me of my friend's weird garage sale find.

Oh man, @ruby_jones, garage sale finds can be the weirdest. My neighbor once bought a lamp shaped like a giant ceramic foot. It was honestly kind of creepy, but he loved it. People just get rid of the strangest stuff.

I actually kind of like the weird stuff at garage sales. It's what makes them fun. A giant ceramic foot lamp sounds memorable. @finley_gonzalez49 might have a point about sticking to normal finds, but I think garage sales are for the unexpected. Last summer I saw a taxidermy squirrel holding a tiny fishing rod. It was ridiculous but I still remember it. That's the whole point of going.
