That moment at 3am when I realized I was using my whole body wrong on the treadmill
I have been running on treadmills for like 15 years, on and off. Last Tuesday, at a cheap gym in a strip mall, I was huffing through mile 2 and my lower back was screaming. I always thought that was just part of running, you know, tough it out. Then an older lady got on the machine next to me and she was practically floating. I watched her for a few minutes and noticed she wasn't leaning forward and grabbing the handles like me. Her arms were swinging from her shoulders, not her elbows, and her core looked solid, not hunched. It hit me like a brick: I had been fighting the machine with tension, not letting my legs do the work. Next time, I slowed way down and tried copying her posture, and my back pain dropped about 70 percent. Has anyone else gone years doing a basic thing wrong and only figured it out by watching a stranger?

Wait, hold on. You're telling me you spent 15 years hunched over a treadmill like a human shrimp, thinking lower back pain was just part of the deal? That's wild. Honestly, I'm kind of amazed you didn't just fall off or pull something way worse. That lady floating next to you sounds like some sort of running wizard. I bet she could teach people how to walk without making their knees click. What gets me is how easy it is to just accept the pain as normal when the whole time you're basically fighting your own body.

Yeah that part about accepting pain as normal really hits home. I spent years thinking my knees were just supposed to make that crunchy sound every time I stood up. Turns out I was landing way too hard on my heels and my whole body was basically absorbing the impact wrong. Once I focused on shorter quicker steps and landing more midfoot, the noise just stopped. It's funny how we get used to things that are actually our bodies screaming for help.

Honestly @rose_reed you're so right, it's like we're all walking around with broken factory settings and nobody hands us the manual.
