The nurse at St. Mary's in Duluth told me to write down my dad's stories, and I almost didn't
My dad was in the hospital for 3 days in Duluth back in March, and one of the night nurses told me to start writing down the stuff he rambled about, not just the medical notes. I almost blew it off, but I grabbed a spiral notebook from the gift shop and started jotting things like the name of the dog he had in 1968 and the diner where he met my mom. Turns out half of it is stuff nobody in our family ever heard, and now I keep a notebook by my chair for whenever he starts up. How do you all pick which memories are worth saving when someone starts telling a story you've heard 20 times?
