Found out my "supportive" friend group chat has been talking behind my back for 6 months

I stumbled on it by accident when my buddy left his phone on the table at Buffalo Wild Wings and a notification popped up. Title was "Dealing with Mike's drama again lmao." I felt sick reading through 50+ messages where they basically said I was exhausting to be around and they just pretended to care. Now I gotta act normal at trivia night on Thursday like I don't know. How do you confront something like this without looking like you were snooping?

I think you might be misreading the title a little. It said "Dealing with Mike's drama again lmao" not "Dealing with Mike's drama again." That little "lmao" at the end makes it so much worse honestly. It shows they think the whole thing is a joke they're sharing together. Like your struggles are just entertainment for them while they grab wings on a Tuesday. But to answer your actual question, you don't need to say you were snooping. You can just say you saw the notification pop up on your buddy's phone and got curious. Because that's literally what happened anyway, you didn't go digging through his messages, you saw a notification that had your name in it. That's totally fair game in my book. For trivia night, I'd probably pull the friend who left his phone out aside and say something like "hey I saw a notification about me on your phone and I'm not mad but we need to talk." Keep it simple. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking you did something wrong by seeing what was right there in the open. If they try to say it was just joking around, ask them why they never said any of this to your face. Real friends tell you when you're being exhausting, they don't make a group chat to laugh about you behind your back. You deserve better than that.

the_ruby nailed it about the chat title, but here's something else - you saw it on your buddy's phone at Buffalo Wild Wings, not in some private moment. That means he LET you see that notification, maybe not on purpose but still. If he really wanted to hide it he would have put his phone face down or kept it in his pocket. This tells me the group might not even be that careful about hiding it, which means they probably don't respect you enough to even try. For trivia night, I'd just walk in and hit them with a "so I heard you guys had some stuff to say about me" without any explanation of how you found out. Watch them squirm.

Wait wait wait, the group chat was literally named "Dealing with Mike's drama again"? That's so cold, I can't believe they'd actually title it that.
