I told a tenant their dog was going to get them evicted and I don't regret it

Last Tuesday at the Oakwood complex, I had to have that awkward talk with a new renter whose pittie kept barking from 6am to noon every day. Everyone else in the building was giving me the tight-lipped smile at the mailboxes, like they expected me to fix it silently. I know the popular move is to blame management and dodge the hard chat, but I sat down with her and laid out the noise logs I'd been collecting for 3 weeks. She cried, I felt awful, but she started using the dog walker I recommended at $20 a visit and the complaints stopped. Has anyone else had to deliver a reality check to someone you genuinely liked, even though it made you the bad guy for a minute?

Man, I feel this one in my bones. I once had to tell a buddy his cat was scratching up every doorframe in the rental, and he looked at me like I'd kicked the thing. I ended up buying a scratching post out of my own pocket just to soften the blow, which made zero sense financially but somehow felt right. The irony is I'm the guy who can't even get my own dog to stop eating my shoes, so I'm out here giving life lessons while my place smells like chew toy. Good on you for handling it straight, though. Most people just let that stuff fester until it blows up.
