My car's transmission gave out on the highway near Bakersfield yesterday.
I smiled and told my boss it was fine, but I'm actually panicking about the $2,800 repair bill. Anyone else had a major expense hit right when you couldn't afford it?

Called the shop myself and asked if they could take payments. They split it into three chunks over 90 days. Also tossed $200 on a credit card, paid it off fast, and kept the rest in cash. Saved my ass not having to drop the whole thing at once.

My fridge died the same week my cat needed emergency surgery last month. I was eating canned beans while writing a check for like three grand. At this point I'm just waiting for my water heater to stage a rebellion.

That "writing a check for like three grand" part is brutal. Did you have to put any of it on a credit card?
