My office chair gave up on life during a Zoom call yesterday

I was presenting to the team with my biggest smile when the gas cylinder just went *pfft* and dropped me six inches. Had to keep my happy face on while basically sitting on the floor for the last 15 minutes. My back is killing me today but everyone at work thinks I'm fine. Anyone else had furniture betray them at the worst moment?

That's the worst kind of office chair failure, the kind that happens in public. You have to admire the timing, waiting for a presentation to fully commit to its breakdown. The real skill is keeping that smile plastered on while your spine is getting compacted. Mine just slowly sinks over an hour, which is its own special kind of torture. At least you got a quick drop and a story out of it.

Remember my chair failing right as I was reaching for the phone.

Honestly used to think the slow sinking chairs were the better deal. At least you can kind of adjust as it goes down, right? But after watching my coworker's chair just GIVE UP during a client meeting last week, nope. That public humiliation is a whole other level of awful. The slow sink just makes you feel crazy, but the sudden drop makes you look crazy. Both are terrible in their own special ways.
