Rant: The fake smile I gave my neighbor after he ruined my fence

My neighbor backed his truck into my fence in Arlington and didn't even leave a note. When I confronted him, he blamed the wind and I just nodded and laughed it off. Took me 6 weekends and about $340 in cedar planks to fix it myself. Why do we let people off the hook just to keep things civil, and then eat the cost in silence?
