That comment about my theater laugh stuck with me for a week
My friend Dana pulled me aside after my community play last Saturday in Denver and said I laugh too loud on stage. She meant it as a note about my acting, but it hit different because that loud laugh is the same one I use to cover when I'm actually miserable at work or family dinners. Since she said it, I can't stop noticing how often I perform happiness for people who didn't ask for it. I sat in my car for 20 minutes after the show, just trying to remember if I have a real laugh anymore or if it's all just a habit I built. The weird thing is, she's not wrong about the stage, but it made me question if the people in my life have ever heard the actual me. Has anyone else had a small critique that suddenly made them doubt their whole way of acting around others?

Denver's full of people faking laughs. You're just the first to notice yours.
