That guy at the hardware store who just asked if I was okay, 3 years ago, still sticks with me.

I was having a rough month but putting on a brave face at work, and a random customer walked past and said man you look like you're carrying something heavy, not the tool kind, and I didn't even know how to answer, has anyone else had a stranger see through the act like that?

Yeah, you just say "thanks" and keep moving. That kind of thing happens because some people are just observant, not because you're obviously falling apart.

Ha, @amy_anderson you're exactly right. I once had a guy at the bus stop ask if I was okay because I was "just staring off into space real hard." I was just thinking about whether I left the stove on. So yeah, thanks and keep walking is the only move. Otherwise you're stuck explaining your whole life story to a stranger who just wanted to feel helpful for five seconds.

Had a woman at the grocery store tell me I looked like I was "planning a funeral" because I was just trying to figure out which pasta shape to buy. I get what you mean, @amy_anderson, some people are just overly observant and it's best to just nod and move on.
