The surprise party I faked joy at for 40 minutes straight

Last Friday my coworkers threw me a surprise birthday party at the break room, and I had no idea it was coming. I smiled and hugged everyone, but inside I was panicking because I had just gotten my performance review that morning and it wasn't good. I kept saying 'this is so sweet' while replaying my manager's words in my head, and I even ate two cupcakes I didn't want. My best friend noticed my eyes were glassy and asked if I was okay, I told her I was just touched, but really I was thinking about updating my resume. Has anyone else had a happy moment completely ruined by something unrelated happening the same day?
