Therapist said to let it out at 8pm, I tried it for a month

My therapist in Columbus told me to set a timer every night at 8 and just vent out loud for 5 minutes, even if no one is home. I thought it was silly but after 3 weeks I noticed I stopped fake-crying at work whenever a client was rude. Turns out dumping the anger in my car instead of saving it for the office actually works. Anyone else try scheduled venting, or does the timing feel too forced for you?

My neighbor Sarah tried this after her divorce and used her commute home as her 5 minute window. She said cussing out her ex in the rearview mirror made her feel like a new person by the time she pulled into her driveway.

Honestly that rearview mirror trick is genius, I did something similar when I was going through my breakup. I would blast angry music and just yell the whole drive home from work, every single day for like two months. It got to the point where I actually looked forward to my commute because it was the only time I could let all that frustration out without scaring my kids or my coworkers. The best part is that by the time I pulled into my driveway, I felt like I could actually walk in and be a normal person instead of a ticking time bomb. I swear it kept me from making some really dumb decisions too, like calling him or texting something I would regret. It sounds so silly but giving yourself that little window to just be a mess really does reset your whole mood.
