Cold feet about moving in together, but the trial run surprised me

My girlfriend and I planned to move in together after three years of dating, and I was honestly dreading it. I figured we'd drive each other crazy within a month, especially since we have totally different sleep schedules and she likes clutter while I'm weird about a clean kitchen. We did a 6 week trial run at her apartment in Portland before signing a lease, mostly just to test the waters. Turns out, the little stuff I was worried about barely mattered. The real issue was communication about money, and we sorted that out with a shared spreadsheet and a Sunday chat. That trial run cost us nothing except some patience, and it saved us from a year lease we might have hated. Has anyone else done a test period before a big move and found it actually worked?
