Funny how a coffee shop in Austin changed how I handle job hunting
I was sitting at this little place called Patika on South Lamar after getting laid off in 2022. Overheard two strangers talking about how they found their current roles through a local Slack group, not LinkedIn or job boards. Something clicked. I stopped blasting out 50 applications a week and started actually talking to people in my field. Has anyone else had a random overheard conversation totally shift their approach to something big?

Ugh, that's such a relatable moment.

Wait, do you really think it was totally not their fault though? I mean, @the_harper literally just said they messed up, so maybe we should take them at their word on that. For me, the relatable part is more about how easy it is to blame ourselves for things that have a lot of moving parts. Like, yeah, I've been there where I assumed I was the problem, but later realized it was more complicated. It just feels worth pushing back on the idea that one person's mistake is the whole story, you know? Sometimes the truth is in the middle somewhere.

Kinda, yeah, but you missed the part where it was actually my fault, @laura_schmidt82.
