Just found out my old company cut 401k match 3 months before I quit, nobody told us
I was cleaning out old emails from my last job in Columbus and found a benefits update from HR dated April 2023. Turns out they quietly dropped our 401k match from 6% to 3% and buried it in a 40 page PDF, no meeting, no nothing. I ran the numbers and that cost me about $1,900 in free money during my final year there. I only found it because I was digging through old pay stubs for my new job's background check. Has anyone else found out after leaving a job that they got shorted on benefits like this? Did you try to get it back or just eat the loss?
That buried in a 40 page PDF thing gets me. I had a buddy at a place in Dayton that did the same trick with their health plan. They switched providers and the new one didn't cover his kid's allergy shots the same way. He found out at the pharmacy counter with a $400 bill. He went back through his old emails and yep, it was on page 30 something of some update nobody read. He tried to fight it but HR just pointed at the PDF and said it was disclosed. So he ate it. My point is this kind of stuff happens way more than people know. You almost never get it back either because they technically told you, just in the sneakiest way possible.
