My aunt's goodbye note from 14 years ago finally makes sense

She wrote it before moving to a tiny town in Oregon, and I found it last month in a box of old books. She said 'you don't leave a place, you leave a version of yourself.' Now that I'm packing for a job transfer to Spokane, I finally get what she meant. Has anyone else revisited old advice right before a big move and felt it hit totally different?
