A client pointed out my hammer scale was ruining his project, so I adjusted my quenching

I had a guy bring back a chisel I forged for him last month, said the hammer scale marks kept flaking off into his work and he couldn't smooth it out. He showed me the pitting in person and I felt terrible, so I started quenching hotter and brushing harder right after. Has anyone else dealt with scale issues ruining a piece for a customer?

Seth, sanding five minutes adds up fast when you're doing fifty chisels a week.

You're really going to change your whole quenching process over some hammer scale... isn't that just part of the deal with forged pieces?

Is it really worth messing with a process that works just to avoid a little cleanup work? Sanding takes like 5 minutes.
