Can we talk about those demo days at hammer-ins?
I went to the Southern Ohio Hammer-In last weekend and watched a guy demo forge welding on a rusty old wrought iron gate. He spent 15 minutes explaining his flux mix while the steel sat there scaling up. Why do so many demonstrators skip the basics like surface prep and just jump into the flashy stuff?

Read in a forum once that some folks treat demo spots like a paid commercial for their flux mix.

Nope, seen that exact thing happen. Guy spent 15 minutes pushing his flux brand while his steel turned blue. Real demos should show the WORK, not sell stuff. Surface prep is boring but that's the actual skill nobody wants to watch.

Had to watch a guy do the exact same thing at a hammer-in last month. He talked for 20 minutes about his special borax mix while his billet just sat there cooling off. Surface prep is the whole game, but it's not as fun to watch as someone making a big spark show. Most folks just want to sell you their secret sauce instead of teaching real technique.
