Had a rough Tuesday last week that turned into my best day of the year
I was working on a set of fireplace tools in my shop near Detroit, and my forge just would not hold temp. Spent the whole morning fighting with it, got frustrated, and walked away for lunch. Came back, cleaned out the burner tip (which I should have done first), and everything ran smooth for the next 5 hours. Finished three fire pokers and a set of tongs that evening. Anybody else have days where a simple fix turns everything around?

Forgot to clean my own forge burner tip last month too, didn't I? Spent three hours thinking my propane tank was bad when the thing was just clogged with spider webs. Must have looked real smart standing there shaking a tank for twenty minutes. At least you got something nice made out of it - I just ended up with a cold forge and a bruised ego.

You ever seen a guy try to light a forge with a lighter for 45 minutes before realizing the safety valve was on? My buddy did that last summer, felt like a total clown.

My first forge had a safety valve that I didn't know about for two years. I always thought those safety features were pointless until I nearly burned my shop down forgetting to turn off the gas.
