I thought the 'coffee can forge' was a joke until I built one
My buddy in Austin swore by his for small projects, but I figured a real forge needed firebrick and proper insulation. I finally tried it with a big paint can, some plaster, and sand after my old forge cracked. It got hot enough to work a railroad spike in about 15 minutes. What other cheap setups have you guys made that actually work?

No way, that's awesome! I always heard those could work but never trusted it. What did you use for a burner on that paint can setup? I'm curious if you went with a simple propane torch or built something more involved.

My old camping stove almost caught my garage on fire.

Remember my cousin tried to make a forge from an old grill and a hair dryer. He melted a hole right through the bottom because he got the blower speed all wrong. We spent the next hour putting out a grass fire in his backyard. He still swears he was close to making a working sword.
