Lost an entire week to a bad batch of spring steel
I know the old timers say to always test a new batch before committing, but I got greedy and skipped that step. The cracks showed up after quench, and you can't fix that with a file or a prayer. I'm thinking about sending the rest of the coil back and eating the shipping cost, just to make a point. Has anyone found a way to spot bad steel before you put in the work, or is it just part of the gamble?

Man, that sick feeling when you see those cracks after quench is the worst, I've been there too and it stings every single time. Honestly, testing a small piece first is a hard lesson we all pay for at least once, so I feel for you on this one.
