PSA: Dressing your anvil with a fresh chamfer made my hammer strikes way more consistent

After fighting with off-center blows for three weeks on a set of leaf hooks, I ground a 45-degree chamfer around the face edge and suddenly my metal stopped sliding around, what edge prep do you guys swear by?

Funny how @the_alice points that out, it's the same reason my car handles better after I softened the tire edges.

Man, that makes total sense. Once you take that sharp edge off, the metal has a defined lip to push against instead of skating off the corner. It's the same thing I noticed with my garden shears last spring. I put a tiny radius on the cutting edge of my old bypass pruners and suddenly they stopped jamming and catching on twigs. It's like the universe works on these little geometry tweaks. A crisp 90 degree edge looks right but it's actually a weak point in a lot of cases. Sharping that transition forces the force to go where you want it.
