Switched from a basic forge to a proper two-burner setup and my steel color reading got way better

For the first year I was just using a single burner brick forge I built from a kit, and my heat control was all guesswork. I'd pull steel at what I thought was a bright orange, but my hardening results were super inconsistent. After saving up, I got a two-burner Mr. Volcano last fall. The difference in even heat and being able to actually see the subtle color shifts is night and day. My last batch of leaf springs came out with a perfect, even temper line every single time. Anyone else find their skill jumped a ton just from upgrading their basic heat source?

Ever feel like you were fighting your own gear before? My old single burner was the same, just a guessing game with hot spots. Getting that even heat really does unlock a whole new level of control.

Honestly, that even heat thing gets talked up a lot. Sometimes a little unpredictability in the gear forces you to pay closer attention, you know? Learning a burner's weird spots feels like part of the skill. Perfect tools can make you a little lazy.

Oh man, that's so true! Good lighting and even heat make all the difference for spotting those color changes.
