That Tuesday I spent 40 minutes hunting a hammer I'd set down 2 feet away
Last Tuesday I was finishing a set of 6 leaf hooks for a guy in Eugene and kept losing my cross peen every few minutes. Turns out I was so focused on the taper angle that I'd set it down on the anvil horn and just forgot, over and over. My old shop teacher used to say a clean bench is a fast bench and I always rolled my eyes at it, but after that day I spent 20 minutes at close just putting every tool back on the rack between heats. Cut my finishing time on the last two hooks by almost half, and the tongs didn't end up buried under scale. Your mileage may vary depending on your setup, but I'm a believer now. Anyone else notice their work speeds up when the shop is actually tidy, or is it just me?
