The old anvil at the Mackinac forge show
Went to that demo in Mackinaw City last Saturday and one guy had a 150 pound anvil with a face worn so smooth it looked like glass. He said his grandpa dressed it flat over 60 years and it still rings true, no dead spots. Made me think about how much time I sink into edge alignment when the real skill is just keeping the face honest. Anyone else ever run a tired anvil that long or do you replace once the rebound drops?

Man, that story hit me right in the feels. Sixty years of honest work on one anvil is something else, and you're totally right about the face being the real deal.
