Vent: My shop buddies swear by heavy lifting, but I focus on stretches

Everyone here says you need big muscles to swing a hammer all day. I used to follow that and got a nasty shoulder strain. Now I do simple stretches before I even touch the forge, and my pain is gone. My work has improved because I'm not stiff and sore. Maybe we should rethink how we prepare our bodies for this trade.

Hold up, he said he wrecked his knee hauling steel? Like, actually wrecked it? That’s wild. I messed up my back once thinking the pain was just part of the job, but a wrecked knee sounds next level.

Wait, he actually wrecked his knee just from hauling steel? That's not just a normal ache, that's a full-on injury. Tbh, I've heard guys talk about pain like it's a badge of honor, but a wrecked knee is serious. It makes you realize how bad it can get if you just ignore your body. No wonder he switched to stretching after that.

Used to scoff at the stretch crew in my shop, called them warm-up wimps. Wrecked my own knee last year hauling steel and finally gave their way a shot. Why did I wait until I was hurt to try something that actually works? Now I mix in light stretches before my shift and the difference is night and day. Makes you wonder how many old timers are pushing through pain just because that's how it's always been done.

But what if that "pain" is just normal aches?
