Waste of $80 on cheap anvil from Amazon

Don't be like me and buy a cast iron anvil off Amazon for 80 bucks. First day using it on a hot railroad spike the face chipped like a stale cookie. Any of you guys know a decent starter anvil that won't break the bank or should I just save up for a proper one from a real supplier?

Honestly, "chipped on the second hit" is insane. That's not even just a random defect, that's straight up dangerous. I get that cheap anvils seem like a good deal but nah, not when one bad swing can send a chunk of metal at your face. That farrier anvil advice is solid though. Those things are built to take a beating every single day, not just for weekend hobby stuff. Ngl, I'd rather deal with a rusty old anvil than risk one of those cast iron paperweights shattering on me. Tbh, when it comes to stuff that's basically a big heavy block you hit with a hammer, trust the used metal over the new junk any day.

My buddy bought the same one and his chipped on the second hit, piece flew right past his face. He just ended up getting a used farrier anvil off Facebook Marketplace for like 60 bucks and it's been solid for years.
