Why does nobody talk about hammer drift on a new anvil?

Picked up a 150lb Peddinghaus last month and spent a whole week wondering why my work kept coming out lopsided. Turns out the face had a slight taper from the factory - like 3 degrees to one side. Checked with a straight edge and feeler gauges. Anyone else deal with this on a brand new anvil or did I just get a weird one?

Three degree taper is wild for a Peddinghaus, that's not normal at all. Most of the guys I know with those anvils had them dead flat or close to it right out of the crate. Sounds like you got one from a bad batch or maybe a return someone swapped the face on.

Actually Peddinghaus anvils are ground by hand so 3 degrees isn't that unusual from the factory.

Wait, are you saying the Peddinghaus QC lets stuff like that slip through regularly now? I always figured they'd catch something that far off.
