I was dead set against those phone detox boxes until my sister locked mine in the glovebox for 6 hours during a road trip to Austin

I couldn't stop tapping my leg for the first hour, but by hour three I had actually read the entire map and talked to my sister about stuff I hadn't brought up in years, so now I'm wondering if I need to do that once a month or something.

Rode with my buddy to Moab last year and he tossed both our phones in the cooler. Ice cold battery drain was brutal but man, we talked about his divorce for the first time ever. Actually listened to his side without checking my notifications every 30 seconds. Felt weird to not have google maps but we just followed signs and got lost on purpose. Those detox boxes are gimmicky as hell but I get why people swear by them now. We made it a rule to do a no-phones drive every other month. Crazy how much you miss when your face isn't in a screen.

We ended up driving two hours out of the way once cause we were too busy catching up to look at road signs.
