My coworker told me I write emails like a robot and it actually helped

I got a new job in Chicago last month and my coworker Sarah pulls me aside after a week. She says 'read your own emails out loud, they sound like a legal document.' I was trying so hard to be professional I forgot to sound human. Now I write drafts super casual and then clean them up just a little. Has anyone else had feedback that made you realize you were overcorrecting?

Wow, I actually read a study once that said robot-like writing makes people trust you less.

Wait, you mean like when people write all stiff and corporate sounding? lol I used to think that being more formal made you sound smarter or more credible but honestly this makes way more sense. People probably just want to feel like they're talking to another human, not a bot or a press release. I've definitely noticed I trust someone more if they just type how they talk.
