My shop's panel went down and I found out my backup plan was a joke
Tuesday morning my main breaker tripped at the shop and killed half the lights and outlets. I figured no big deal, I'll just flip it back and get my guys working again. But when I pushed it back, it didn't hold and sparked a little. That's when I realized I hadn't tested my backup generator in 8 months. I ran out back to fire it up and the battery was dead. So I spent 3 hours rewiring a temporary feed from the neighbor's building just to get through the day. Meanwhile my crew stood around and I lost about $600 in labor. I ordered a new battery and a portable jump pack that same afternoon. Has anyone else had a critical piece of gear fail and find out your standby plan wasn't worth the paper it was written on?

Whoa, easy there. Losing $600 in labor for one day doesn't exactly sound like a business-ending disaster to me, your crew was probably fine standing around for a few hours.

Man that's a rough way to start a week. I feel for you, it's brutal when you think you're covered and then find out you're not.
