Picked the cheap airbnb over a hotel for a work trip. Regretted every second of it.

Blame the host, not the whole concept. I've had some of my best travel experiences in cheap airbnbs. One place in Portland had a stack of board games and a cat that would sit on my laptop while I worked. Hotels just give you a mini shampoo and a bad attitude. You probably just picked a spot with paper thin walls and no coffee maker. There's good cheap and bad cheap, you know.

lmao @wren638 acting like a stray cat is a hotel amenity. "Bad attitude" is accurate though, most hotels act like you're inconveniencing them by breathing. But honestly, paper thin walls and no coffee maker? That's just the cheap Airbnb starter pack. I'd rather take the bad attitude hotel guy and a free breakfast than lug my own french press and earplugs.

Heard this from a buddy who rented a "charming studio" in Austin last summer. Showed up and the coffee maker was literally a saucepan and a paper towel filter, no joke, and the "queen bed" was just two twin mattresses pushed together with a fitted sheet that kept popping off every time he rolled over. Plus the host texted him at 9pm asking if he could "keep it down" because he was watching a movie at a normal volume. I'll take a grumpy front desk guy and a waffle maker any day over that nonsense.
