That moment in a Denver parking lot where a stranger fixed my tire for free

I was changing a flat in a King Soopers lot around 8pm last Tuesday, and some guy in a beat up Ford Ranger just pulled over and handed me a proper breaker bar. He said he carried it for situations like this, didn't want anything in return, just drove off after I got the lug nuts loose. Has anyone else had a random act of roadside help that shifted how you see people?

Hmm, I mean maybe it's just me but that whole story kind of rubs me the wrong way. A stranger pulling over at night in a parking lot to hand you a breaker bar could just as easily be a setup to steal your car or worse while you're distracted. Idk, I grew up in a city where random kindness from a guy in a beat up truck usually had strings attached, like he'd want cash or a favor later. Actually had a friend take help from a stranger once, and the guy ended up following her home asking for gas money.

Wait, did this really happen to your friend or are you just guessing? I get being careful, I really do, but I've had the opposite experience. A few years back my battery died at a gas station around 11pm and some guy in a rusty Ford pulled up, gave me a jump, and just drove off. Didn't ask for cash, didn't follow me home, nothing. I watched him leave and that was it. I think there's a difference between being smart and being so scared of everyone that you miss out on actual good people. Your friend's story sucks and that dude was a creep, but one bad apple doesn't mean every stranger with a tool is out to get you.

Nah but wait @rubyk26 the guys in the story wasn't a stranger in a beat up truck. He was a former coworker that OP hadn't seen in a while. So its not like some random creep just pulled over, ya know? Totally get being sketched out by randoms though. Had a dude try and "help" me with a flat tire once and he kept trying to upsell me on some roadside assistance membership thing. That was weird. But this situation reads different to me, guy knew her from before and just happened to have a breaker bar handy.
