That viral video of a cat reacting to its owner's heartbeat made me question everything
I rolled my eyes at first when my roommate showed me that TikTok of a cat purring louder after hearing a human heartbeat through a stethoscope. But then I tried it with my own cat Jasper last night using a cheap stethoscope from Amazon, and he instantly calmed down and started kneading my chest. Has anyone else actually tested this stuff at home or am I just desperate to believe my cat loves me lol?

I was in the same boat honestly. I figured it was just another internet fad that people were reading too much into. My cat Mabel is pretty aloof most of the time, so I never thought she would care about something like that. But I gave it a shot with an old stethoscope my dad had lying around. I put the chest piece on my shirt and she actually came over and pressed her head into it, then started purring like crazy. It was weird because she usually only does that when she wants food. I sat there for maybe ten minutes just watching her calm down. It changed how I think about her, I guess. Maybe they really do pick up on more than we give them credit for.

That stethoscope story just reminded me of something totally random. My buddy tried the same thing with his dog and a cheap plastic toy stethoscope from his kid's doctor kit, and the dog just sniffed it once and walked away like "boring." But then his cat tried to steal the thing and carry it off like a trophy.

Guess I've been missing out by not having a stethoscope lying around.
