The number on a fire safety post stopped me cold, 18 inches is not enough
Scrolling last night I hit a post from a fire marshal in Ohio saying most people put their smoke alarms right on the wall above a doorway, and that spot can delay the alarm by several minutes because smoke pools up at the ceiling first. He said the alarm should be no more than 12 inches from the highest point of the ceiling, and something like 40 percent of homes he checks have it in the wrong spot. I do this for a living and I still went and looked at mine this morning, and yeah, mine was too low. Anyone else move theirs after reading something like that, or am I the only one who checked at 6am?
