Caught myself being the rules lawyer at game night and it killed the fun

I used to correct everyone on every minor rule mistake in our weekly board game group. Last month during a 4-hour game of Terraforming Mars, I stopped myself from calling out a misplay and just let it slide. The whole table relaxed and we actually finished the game laughing instead of arguing. Has anyone else realized they were the problem at their own table?

Hold up, why is everyone acting like rules matter less than feelings? If you're gonna spend 4 hours on Terraforming Mars, the rules are what make the game work in the first place. I've had rounds where one dude forgot to pay for a greenery tile and it completely wrecked the balance for everyone else. Letting stuff slide just makes the whole thing pointless, you might as well be playing make believe.
