Finally found a board game cafe with a proper game library in Portland
Visited this spot called My Father's Place and they had over 400 games on the shelves, including a beat-up copy of Dune from the 70s that actually got played. Anyone else ever find a hidden gem cafe that respects the hobby?

Oh man that's awesome! A buddy of mine stumbled into this little place in Denver called The Wizard's Chest and said they had a copy of Cosmic Encounter from like 1980 with all the pieces still in it. He sat down with some random strangers and played a three hour game that got super heated over lunch lol. Places like that are so hard to find now with everything going digital and people just wanting to play on their phones. Makes me wish more spots would just let the old games get worn out and loved instead of keeping them in plastic wrap on a shelf.

Wait, Cosmic Encounter from 1980 with ALL the pieces? That's insane. I can't even keep track of the instruction manual for a game from last year, let alone something that old.

Hang on, I gotta push back a little @west.richard. Not everyone wants to dig through a dusty box of old pieces to play a game. @wesleyb20 is right, keeping track of stuff that old is almost impossible. I get the nostalgia but a lot of those older games are missing parts or the rules are worn off. Its way better to have a clean copy you can actually play right away instead of hoping the pieces are there. Digital games are fine for what they are but theyre not the same as sitting down with a real board. Let the new games get worn out, not the rare old ones.
