Just realized Settlers of Catan has been around for 30 years... does it still hold up?

Oh yeah, it totally holds up. My group still pulls it out a few times a year and it never fails to get people heated over sheep trades.

Yeah I actually saw a video about that game the other day. Some board game channel was talking about how the sheep trading is the whole reason people remember it after all these years. They pointed out that the tension really comes from nobody ever wanting to trade sheep because everyone's waiting for that last one to complete their set. And then when someone finally does trade it away, you get people going "why didn't you trade with me first" and suddenly it's personal. Makes sense why you're still breaking it out.

Traded my last sheep to my brother once and watched the rest of our group deadpan stare at him for five straight minutes. It was perfect.
