My board game crew went from chips to full-on theme meals

I've been running game nights for a while, and something changed this year. Everyone shows up with fancy homemade food now, not just store-bought snacks. Like, we played a pirate game last month, and someone made fish tacos with little paper sails on them. It's kind of extra, but we all get into it. We even have a group chat just for sharing recipes and planning who brings what. I'm not much of a cook, so I brought gold coin chocolates for the pirate treasure. It's funny how we spend half the time talking about the food instead of the game. Honestly, it makes the whole night more fun and memorable.

gotta say that sounds like a lot of work though. i mean @susanb34 is right about it being fun, but like, do we really need themed food? seems a bit much maybe.

That's honestly so cool when a group vibe shifts like that. The fish tacos with little sails actually sounds amazing, and gold coin chocolates is a perfect move for a non-cook. Tbh, the food talk probably adds as much to the night as the game does, it becomes its own fun thing. Sounds like you've got a really good crew going.

That shift you're talking about, where the food talk adds as much to the night, it's a real thing. I see it everywhere now, like people need more from just hanging out. It's not enough to just do the activity, there has to be this whole extra layer of making it special. It feels like we're all trying so hard to make moments matter, to turn a simple game night into a core memory. Honestly, it's nice but it also makes me tired just thinking about it.
