My Catan game got physically destroyed by a spilled soda on Friday night

We were three hours into a tense game at my friend's apartment in Austin, and someone knocked over a full Dr Pepper right onto the board. The settlement cards are now stuck together with sticky syrup, and the robber token is permanently stained. Has anyone else had a game session ruined by food or drink disasters?

Nah, I get where they're coming from actually. Read somewhere that board game arguments hit different because it's not just the game it's the sunk time, the social pressure, maybe someone's been losing all night or feels ganged up on. A friend told me once that games like that can tap into old sibling rivalry vibes or work stress without you even noticing. Three hours of that tension building, one bad trade or rule misinterpretation can set someone off. Plus some people just handle frustration poorly in general, the game becomes the scapegoat. Not saying it's healthy, but I've seen it happen and it's rarely just about the cardboard and dice.
