My game group fell apart over a rules argument in Catan

We had a regular Friday night group for years, but last month a fight about a development card trade in Catan got really heated. Someone said the move was 'against the spirit of the game' and it just killed the mood for good. Now our group chat is dead and we haven't met since. Has anyone managed to rebuild a group after something like this?

Just start a new game night with different people.

What's the over-under on how long it'll take before the new group argues about Monopoly rules? I give it one hour before someone flips the board over a disputed hotel on Baltic Avenue. Then you're right back to square one, just with different people glaring at each other.

The real fix is printing out the official rules from Hasbro's website before anyone shows up. I did that after a huge fight about Free Parking money, and it solved 90% of the problems. @the_jana has the right idea to start fresh with different people, but the same rule arguments will just happen again. You need a clear referee and the actual rulebook in plain sight. People make up their own house rules and then treat them like gospel truth. Without that, you're just setting up a new group for the same old blowup over Baltic Avenue.
