My nephew called me out on being too competitive during game night
We were playing Catan last Saturday and my 14 year old nephew said 'Uncle Jake, you take this way too seriously.' He was right because I was literally tracking everyone's resource cards for two rounds. It made me think about how I treat board games like a job sometimes instead of just having fun with family. Anybody else had a younger relative humble you about your gaming habits?

Last Thanksgiving my own son timed me on a Scrabble move, I think he counted 4 minutes. Had to step back and remind myself these are just games with family, not a tournament. Ease up on the card counting and just laugh when someone gets lucky with a robber placement.

@david_jones38 Four minutes is an eternity in Scrabble, but that's the point of family game night, isn't it? We're not playing for cash or trophies, we're playing for the joy of yelling "that's not a real word!" and watching someone flip the board when they lose. Card counting and timing moves just turns it into a chore, not a memory. Let the robber land wherever it lands and laugh about it later over pie. If you're sweating the clock or the tile count, you've already lost the real game.

Last Thanksgiving, did you actually stop timing yourself or did you just get caught and feel embarrassed about it in the moment?
